Evaluation using visual comparisons with standard diagrams of industrial standards

Metal structure evaluation using image analysis software

Since the mechanical properties of metal depend on its structure, observing the structure using a microscope while referring to a standard diagram has typically been the method used to evaluate the structure. One issue that arises, though, is how to efficiently record the results obtained during the inspection.

The Olympus solution

The "Chart Comparison" solution in OLYMPUS Stream image analysis software is easy to use, enabling inspectors to quickly compare metal structure samples with the standard diagrams used in different industrial standards. The software makes it easy for users to embed their results as additional information into the image. The software and hardware can communicate to help ensure that the correct magnification is being used, reducing the chance of incorrect identification. This solution provides standard diagrams of industrial standards such as ISO 643, ISO 945, ASTM E112, EN 10247/07, DIN 50602, SEP 1572, SEP 152, etc. Using the "Chart Comparison" solution also enables you to hold discussions while comparing samples and standard diagrams on a large monitor, which can make inspector education more efficient.
